From the drylands - Kaumoni

A brief presentation of Esther, showing pictures that she took a few days ago in a new community named Kaumoni. Hopefully Esther herself will do some blog co-writing here, describing the work she among other volunteers are doing to improve chances for survival in extreme drylands (Kaumoni) and in the slums (Kibera).

Esther lives in Nairobi, Kenya, together with her husband and their children. Her main occupation is for Samasource Kenya Limited. She spends much of her spare time on a project named "Seeds for Life", where she is co-working with other volunteers in the slums and in droughtstricken areas of Kenya. They offer medical help, teach about the use of medicinal plants, and help people living there to become more self sustained.

Esther and her team focus on small scale projects, training women in making handcrafts they can sell to earn their own money, improving their chances to feed and raise their children in a very rough part of the world.

Esther will also tell us more about the medicinal plants they use in Africa.

 Etterkvart kjem her gjerne gjesteblogginnlegg frå Esther, der ho fortel meir om arbeidet som ho blant fleire frivillige gjer for hjelp til å overleve i områder med ekstrem tørke, som i Kaumoni, samt i eit av verdas største og verste slumstrøk - Kibera.

Esther bor i Nairobi, Kenya, saman med mannen sin og deira små born. Ho arbeider for Samasource Kenya Limited. Mykje av fritida si brukar Esther til prosjektet "Seeds for Life" der ho saman med andre frivillige arbeider i slumområda og i alvorleg tørkeramma område. Dei tilbyr der medisinsk hjelp, driv opplæring i bruk av medisinske plantar, og lærer kvinnene å lage handarbeid for sal.

Esther og teamet hennar fokuserer på småskalaprosjekt der dei lærer kvinner å lage handarbeid som dei kan selje for å tene eigne pengar. Betra økonomi betrar sjansane deira til å brødfø borna sine og gje dei ein tryggare økonomisk oppvekst i hardt prøva område i verda.

I tillegg vil ho fortelje oss om dei medisinske plantane dei brukar i Afrika.

Training yesterday.

Will meet the group again on the 14th, we are having a big medical camp where there will be eye check up/heart check up. We had to look for a doctor to do that cheaply, eye check up is free. Then natural medicine training. This community needs alot of support too.

I will also have a team of 10 women widows and young mothers, we start on hand craft.
